Jasmine Grandiflorum

Jasmine Grandiflorum—also known as Royal Jasmine or Spanish Jasmine—is one of the most iconic and luxurious floral notes in perfumery. Extracted from the delicate white blossoms of Jasminum grandiflorum, this note is famed for its rich, narcotic floralcy, combining sweet, velvety petals with fruity, slightly green, and animalic undertones. Compared to the brighter, more indolic Jasmine Sambac, Jasmine Grandiflorum is softer, creamier, and more romantic, with a rounded warmth that gives body and elegance to floral, chypre, and oriental compositions. It is used predominantly as a heart note to impart sensuality, depth, and classic femininity.

History & Production: Native to South Asia but cultivated widely in Grasse (France), Egypt, and India, Jasmine Grandiflorum flowers are hand-harvested at dawn and processed through solvent extraction to yield a precious absolute. This absolute is among the most expensive in perfumery, due to the vast number of blossoms required and the fragility of the flowers. The oil is rich in benzyl acetate, linalool, indole, and cis-jasmone, which contribute to its floral, fruity, and slightly animalic complexity.
