DOUGLAS MOREL
Douglas Morel is a French perfumer whose fascination with scent began in his childhood in northern France, where aromas from the kitchen first sparked a deep olfactory curiosity. An early pivotal moment occurred in a bazaar in Damascus, where the blend of cinnamon, cardamom and cumin left a lasting mark on his sensory memory, fueling his ambition to recreate that unique fragrance memory. After formal training at ISIPCA and an apprenticeship at Takasago under the mentorship of Francis Kurkdjian, he refined his craft in balancing raw materials and composition with disciplined artistry.
Morel’s signature style is built on the interplay between travel-inspired memories and refined olfactive architecture. His works often weave spicy, woody or leather-tinted accords with textured depth—think cedarwood, tuberose, amber and patchouli. He approaches each fragrance as a story: for example, his creation of “Rose Fumée” evokes the chiaroscuro of rose softness against leathery osmanthus and earthy patchouli. In his artistry, the memory of landscapes met the precision of materials—time becomes an ingredient, and the journey of scent becomes the story itself.
